About Statutia
Statutia answers one question for small-business owners: what will this LLC decision actually cost, and which option is the better deal for you?
The Statutia Ledger Desk
Everything on Statutia is written and kept up to date by the Statutia Ledger Desk, Statutia’s editorial desk at Carefree Charters LLC. It is a desk, not a single named expert: we use the name so you always know who is responsible for a figure, and so corrections have one place to go. The desk’s rules:
- Every price, fee and deadline links to the official state source or the provider’s own page, with the date it was checked.
- A figure that hasn’t been re-checked within 120 days is removed until it is: at once in the calculator, and at the next weekly rebuild on other pages.
- Recommendations come from cost and the need you choose. Commissions are never an input.
- We don’t publish star ratings or claim hands-on testing we haven’t done.
- Mistakes are corrected and logged on the methodology page.
Who we are
Statutia is published by Carefree Charters LLC, an independent small business. We are not a law firm, a registered agent, a formation service or a government agency, and nothing on this site is legal or tax advice.
What we do
- Add up the real cost of starting and keeping an LLC: state fees plus each provider’s renewal price, over one, three and five years.
- Give a plain verdict — file it yourself, use a service, stay, switch, or be your own agent — and show the math behind it.
- Flag look-alike solicitation letters that state regulators have warned about.
How our research works
Every state figure links to the official fee schedule, statute or agency page it came from, with the date we checked it. Provider prices come from the provider’s own site. Research is assisted by AI tools; every published figure is tied to a primary source and check date, and any figure that hasn’t been re-checked within 120 days is hidden automatically until it is (at once in the calculator; at the next weekly rebuild on other pages). We haven’t bought these services to test them, and we say so where it matters.
Independence
Our recommendations are based on cost and on the need you tell us. Commissions are never an input: the code that makes recommendations doesn’t read any affiliate data, and an automated test fails if it ever does. That’s why the site will tell you to file it yourself, stay with your current agent, or be your own agent when that’s cheaper. See how we make money and our methodology.
